About the Artist
%20(1).png)
Alison Rosse has drawn and painted all her life. No formal training, but she lived in many different countries up to the 1980s - with her husband then working in the UN - and in the course of their travels, always sketch book in hand, she absorbed many different cultures and schools of painting and had lessons with different tutors and groups.
During six years in Iran she worked as a draftsman on archaeological sites which increased her drawing skills.
Returning to Ireland she worked at first in watercolour, painting landscapes and also interiors. These included a series of libraries which were exhibited in the National Library , published as 'Room for Books - Paintings of Irish Libraries'.
She is now painting mainly in oil, returning to the Irish landscapes which she loves, especially the midland landscape aroung her home in Birr Castle, the Slieve Bloom, the Burren and also the Arran Islands.
As well as continuing to paint interiors, a new challenge has been her paintings of gardens, shown in several recent exhibitions.
